About PRCA
The Public Relations Council of West Alabama was established in 1989.
We are committed to promoting the professional and ethical practice of public relations. PRCA of West Alabama has built a community that develops both current and future practitioners through effective member action and strong volunteer leadership.
Networking
Monthly luncheons, professional workshops, annual conferences and social events give members many opportunities to share and grow.
Professional Development
Meetings, workshops and annual conferences showcase engaging, informative speakers talking about topics of interest to all levels of PR professionals. Plus, we strive to host at least one local professional development workshop each year and the state hosts at least one workshop open to all PRCA members. Workshops are open to non-members, but PRCA members usually receive a discounted rate.
Recognition
At our annual state conference, PRCA recognizes our members’ best work with Medallion Awards. The regional Southern Public Relations Federation also honors members with Lantern Awards.
Leadership
West Alabama chapter needs fourteen leaders to fill the board each year. The state PRCA organization has ten more opportunities for leadership. Special events like the state conference and community service projects give other opportunities to serve.
Code of Ethics
All members of PRCA have agreed to abide by a Code of Ethics and do their part to uphold and further the state of the public relations profession. Go to the SPRF web site to review the Code of Ethics.
Accreditation
Once meeting a few simple criteria, members can take a nationally recognized, universal accreditation exam — that means more recognition and often, more pay. Find out more at the PRCA site on accreditation. Accredited members are designated by the initials “APR” after their names.
